Department of Neuro Surgery

Department E-Mail - neurosurgerydkspgi@gmail.com

This fervent department of neurosurgery was established in the year 2009, although neurosurgical work has been going on since 2000. The carbon dating values of the department itself and its surgeons, may not be sky-high, but the same cannot be said about the knowledge, skills, moral and ethical values of the surgeons, the department is comprised of; thanks to the extensive work load at our hospital and the rigorous training obtained from prestigious and premiere institutes like Bombay Hospital, Mumbai; SCTIMST, Trivandrum; IPGMER, Kolkata and GB PANT, New Delhi. Understanding very well that the overall improvement in the outcomes of neurosurgery, worldwide, has an exponential positive correlation with the development in technology, it has been a constant endeavor of the Department to obtain worldclass operating instruments, so that best possible results may be obtained. It is the result of those constant efforts that the institute has two high end operating microscopes, Neuronavigation, Neuroendoscopy, intraoperative nerve monitoring system along with CUSA, drill system and a fully integrated NEURO operation theatre. Besides having two elective OTs, there’s a Casualty OT and a Cath –Lab, all running round the clock, managed by efficient and trained staff. Most of these are a first for the state of Chhattisgarh.

The Institute takes pride in the work that is being done and the surgical outcomes that are achieved for the patients. Besides performing long and complex surgeries for brain and spine tumours, the surgeons are also very well trained in performing complicated spine and CVJ surgeries. A significant number of patients have also been benefited from functional surgeries for pain and epilepsy as well as surgeries for peripheral nerves. Surgeries for vascular diseases are ever increasing and the surgeons take great pride to have had performed the first successful intracranial vascular anastomosis in the State, for a young patient with Moya-Moya disease. The surgeons have also performed the first “lesionectomy plus” surgery for epilepsy, in the state. Being the first department in the state to have procured permission for starting superspeciality courses, is another feather in its cap. Working towards improving oneself at every facet, to be able to contribute to the overall development of the subject and thereby, the betterment of mankind, is the feat that every individual in the department strives to achieve.
